GLOSLUG

Originally created as a part of GIPHY's annual Maker's Day in 2020, GLOSLUG is a throwback virtual pet that lives in your browser and communicates its needs to you through GIFs! Play with, feed, and help GLOSLUG relieve its anxiety! 

Inspired by the classic Tamagotchi craze of the late 90s as well as the bizarre middle-aged fishman known as Seaman for the SEGA Dreamcast, GLOSLUG doesn't need you to clean up its poop or subject you to a verbal beratement. Instead GLOSLUG is your virtual bud that lives in your browser with a UI inspired by vintage macOS, Amiga Workbench, and Poolside.fm.

If you can't follow GLOSLUG's facial expressions to determine whether it wants to play, eat, smoke out, or just needs a cuddle, GLOSLUG uses the GIPHY API to deliver GIFs to communicate what it's feeling. GLOSLUG won Best Design at GIPHY's Maker's Day in 2020.
